DuPage County Driver's License Reinstatement Lawyer

If you live in DuPage County and your driver's license has been revoked, your formal reinstatement hearing will take place at one of four Secretary of State hearing facilities in Illinois — Chicago, Joliet, Springfield, or Mt. Vernon. For many DuPage County residents, particularly those in the southern and western suburbs, the Joliet facility at 54 North Ottawa Street is actually closer and easier to reach than the Chicago facility at 17 North State Street.

Our office is located at 26 East Clinton Street in downtown Joliet — less than two blocks from that hearing facility. We've represented hundreds of clients at formal hearings in that building, and our familiarity with the Joliet hearing officers and state's attorneys is a direct advantage for DuPage County clients who choose to have their hearing there.

A Reinstatement Specialist Serving DuPage County

DuPage County has dozens of criminal defense firms that include license reinstatement as one of many practice areas. The difference with our firm is that driver's license reinstatement is all we do. We don't handle DUI defense, traffic tickets, or general criminal cases through Illinois Reinstatement Lawyers. We focus entirely on getting people's driving privileges back through Secretary of State hearings.

Attorney Jack L. Zaremba served as a prosecutor in the Will County State's Attorney's Office before dedicating his practice to reinstatement work. That background means we understand how the state's attorney at a formal hearing builds their case — because we used to do that job. We know what hearing officers at the Joliet facility expect to see in your documentation and hear in your testimony, and we prepare every client accordingly.

Our first-hearing success rate is 95%, built on a preparation process that starts well before your hearing date. We get involved at the evaluation stage, review every document before it's submitted, and conduct practice sessions that mirror the actual cross-examination you'll face. By the time you sit down in front of the hearing officer, the preparation is already done.

Where DuPage County Hearings Take Place

DuPage County does not have its own formal hearing facility. Formal reinstatement hearings for DuPage County residents are scheduled at either the Joliet or Chicago Secretary of State offices. You can request either location when you submit your hearing application.

For residents of communities like Naperville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Downers Grove, Lisle, and Westmont, the Joliet facility is often the shorter drive — roughly 20 to 30 minutes on I-55 or Route 53 depending on where in DuPage County you're located. The Chicago facility requires navigating downtown traffic and parking, which adds time and stress on a day when your focus should be entirely on the hearing.

Informal hearings — available for first-time DUI offenders — are conducted on a walk-in basis at select Driver Services facilities. DuPage County has informal hearing locations that may be available closer to home. We can advise you on which location makes the most sense based on your specific situation.

For a detailed explanation of how both types of hearings work, see our formal hearings guide and our reinstatement process page.

Common Reinstatement Situations for DuPage County Residents

DUI revocation. A DUI conviction anywhere in Illinois — including DuPage County courts in Wheaton — results in mandatory license revocation by the Secretary of State. The minimum revocation period depends on your history: one year for a first conviction, five years for a second within twenty years, ten years for a third, and lifetime for four or more. After the revocation period ends, you must petition the Secretary of State for reinstatement through a hearing. The revocation does not end automatically. See our reinstatement process page for a full walkthrough of what's required.

Multiple DUI convictions. If you have two or more DUI dispositions, a formal hearing is required, and you'll need to drive on a Restricted Driving Permit with a BAIID device before full reinstatement is possible. For two convictions, the BAIID requirement is five continuous years. We've represented DuPage County clients with complex multi-DUI histories and achieved successful outcomes — you can see examples on our case results page.

Statutory summary suspension. A DUI arrest in DuPage County triggers an automatic statutory summary suspension — separate from any criminal penalties. First-offense failures result in a six-month suspension; refusals trigger twelve months. These don't require a hearing to end, but you must pay the reinstatement fee and may need a Monitoring Device Driving Permit (MDDP) during the suspension period.

Out-of-state DUI reported to Illinois. If you hold an Illinois license and received a DUI in another state, Illinois will revoke your driving privileges once that conviction is reported through the national database. This catches many DuPage County residents off guard — you may have resolved the DUI in the other state but still face a revocation in Illinois that must be addressed through a separate reinstatement hearing.

Drug-related suspensions. Possession charges or a DUI involving controlled substances can trigger license suspension or revocation with its own set of evaluation and treatment requirements.

DuPage County Communities We Serve

We represent clients from across DuPage County in Secretary of State reinstatement hearings, including residents of Naperville, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Lisle, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Westmont, Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Aurora (DuPage portion), Addison, Bensenville, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Villa Park, Warrenville, West Chicago, Winfield, and Roselle. We also serve clients in Will County and Cook County.

Many of these communities are closer to our Joliet office and the Joliet hearing facility than to downtown Chicago. For clients in southern DuPage communities like Naperville, Bolingbrook, and Woodridge, a hearing at the Joliet facility means less travel and easier logistics on hearing day.

DuPage County Residents Who've Moved Out of State

If your DUI occurred while you were living in DuPage County but you've since relocated to another state, Illinois still holds your revocation on record. Your new home state will discover the hold when you try to obtain or renew a license and refuse to issue one until Illinois clears it.

Our firm is authorized to conduct reinstatement hearings entirely online via WebEx. We regularly represent former DuPage County residents who now live in Florida, Texas, California, and other states. The online hearing process is identical to an in-person hearing — same participants, same rules, same cross-examination — but conducted by video so you never need to travel back to Illinois.
